Sweden's priorities include Ukraine, humanitarian, democracy, climate action, gender equality, trade and migration. Swedish development cooperation focuses on poverty reduction and support for sub-Saharan Africa. In 2023, Sweden's total official development assistance (ODA) was $5.6 billion (preliminary data), an increase from the previous year, accounting for 0.91% of the country's gross national income that year.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands announced<\/b><\/strong>reduce<\/b><\/strong>Development Budget 2025<\/b><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

On September 17, 2024, the Dutch government announced that it would provide 3.6 billion euros (about 3.9 billion U.S. dollars) in budget funds to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Aid in 2025, and cut 300 million euros (about 300 million U.S. dollars) from the 2025 development cooperation budget.<\/p>\n

The Dutch cabinet stressed the priority of supporting development areas in which the Netherlands has expertise and economic interests, such as water management, food security and health. On September 11, 2024, the German Parliament launched negotiations on the 2025 federal budget. The draft budget plans to cut the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by 836 million euros (about 925 million US dollars), about 12%, including a reduction of 47% in humanitarian aid funds. The draft budget also plans to cut the budget of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) by 937 million euros (about 1 billion US dollars), about 8%.<\/p>\n

German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze expressed frustration with the budget cuts.
